A Hole In The Wall

Riverbluffs Park, Cambridge, ON

This project is centred around the concept of a kitchen. Using Hong Kong’s Cha Chaan Tengs (or hole-in-the-wall diners) as inspiration. What’s unique about them is their ability to utilize every possible crevice within a space, yet they continue to be the most popular place to enjoy a nostalgic, comforting meal. I centered my design concept on this aspect, focusing on spaces that encourage community interactions through ciruclation and layouts with the end goal being to allow anyone to gather for a good meal.

Site

Located in Riverbluffs Park, this structure overlooks river views with the site providing the perfect sunrise and sunset spots for occupants. The topography of the site allows for the structure to be nested amongst the riverside and between the sprawling trees, inspiring a private bubble of life between the granite walls all while enjoying a good meal along the Grand River of Cambridge.
